F5 LTM Fundamentals

The goal of this course is to introduce F5 LTM operation system and it's multiple fetures and configuration. The course covers basics for load balancing terminology.

This courses target audience are personnel with no further experience about F5 LTM devices, but assumes that participants have knowledge about network systems.

Course type: 50% lectures and 50% labs

Course language: All materials and lectures are held in Finnish

  • Getting started with the BIG-IP system
  • Traffic processing with BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM)
  • Using the TMSH (TMOS Shell) command line interface
  • BIG-IP initial setup (licensing, provisioning, and network configuration)
  • Monitoring application health and managing object status
  • Modifying traffic behaviour with profiles, including SSL offload and re-encryption
  • Modifying traffic behaviour with persistence, including source address affinity and cookie persistence
  • Using NATs and SNATs
  • Processing traffic with virtual servers (including network, forwarding, and reject virtual servers)
  • Monitoring application health with Layer 3, Layer 4, and Layer 7 monitors
  • Using dynamic load balancing methods
  • Configuring high availability (including active/standby and N+1 sync failover device groups, connection and persistence mirroring, and sync-only device groups)
  • Modifying traffic behaviour with profiles (including advanced HTTP profile options, caching, compression, and OneConnect profiles)
  • Deploying application services with iApps
  • Always-On Management (AOM)
  • Customizing application delivery with iRules
  • User roles and administrative partitions (also Route Domains)
  • vCMP concepts and MSP service models
